I don’t know if Oyster War will ever become and actual printed book, but I’m sure designing it with that possibility in mind… as you can probably guess by clicking back to the previous page; these two pages are obviously designed as a spread. It took me years to really start thinking this way for some odd reason, but: the fundamental unit of the printed comic book is the spread, not the page. Interestingly, that’s one big fundamental difference in web vs. print comics that I don’t see discussed much. With the bewildering array of reading devices out there, I don’t think webcomics or digital can really be said to have a fundamental unit. What you see and how you read them varies widely depending on how–and on what–it’s being viewed.
